Wind Turbine Manufacturing
The market for wind energy is growing rapidly in British Columbia, Canada. Half of all new energy demand is being met by renewables including wind energy. The 2008 Clean Energy Call is out for tender and major wind contracts totaling up to 1000 MW will be awarded in mid 2009.The K.T. Industrial Development Society and partners are hopeful that the strategic business advantages offered by Kitimat and Terrace will result in wind turbine component manufacturing in this region.
The Kitimat Terrace region is home to some of the largest wind projects in Canada. These include the Banks Island project (3000 MW) and Naikun Wind Energy (1750 MW) offshore field. Both projects are expected to bid into the BC Hydro's power call. Other smaller projects abound in wind regimes along the Northwest Pacific coast and have easy access to the Kitimat.- Industry Analysis - (2.3mb)
